Update #46 - We're going home!

Ken Shackelford February 17, 2009

Hello to all, we just wanted to send a quick update to share something special with you all. We just had our every-other-week conference with our doctors, nurses, therapy team, and child life people. Robbie was able to attend this one for the first time and he kept everyone laughing throughout. I think he was encouraged as everyone reported individually of how amazed they were at his good progress the past two weeks.

I’ll share more details later but the most important thing to come out of this meeting was a discharge date! The plan is now for us to be able to head home on Friday, February 27, just 10 days from now. Robbie, as you can imagine, had a big smile on his face when he heard that, almost as big as the smile on his father’s face. His therapy team made Robbie promise to keep updates going on the Caringbridge site before we they would agree to let him leave and also wanted him to promise to come back and visit.

Thank you all for praying that he could go home before the end of the month. Once again, your prayers are being answered with a resounding affirmative. For all of you in Fayetteville who have been asking over and over, “How can we help?” You are about to get your answer as I’m sure we will have many new challenges as we transition out of a hospital and into a home. We will most likely be taking him back and forth to therapy every weekday for many weeks to come.

Bless you all and please join us in giving thanks to the Father for his healing work in our son.

Grace and peace,

Ken

Yes, Shack has a blog (several in fact).

The Shacklog will be Shack’s blog of the present, his thoughts and family news.

The Backlog will, you guessed it, look back on Shack family days gone by.

One special blog that you see in the drop down menu is Stripes.  I have ported these over from our Facebook updates that we did when Robbie was in the hospital in late '08 - '09.

Finally, 10k is a somewhat poetic devotional of praise, with the plan to ultimately give 10,000 reasons to sing praise to my Lord.

I love writing but don't find the time to do it much.  I've never done a blog because it seems that no one ever reads them. Meh.  I guess it doesn't really matter.  Maybe my grandkids will browse through it someday.
